He pointed out that there was no such thing as "the poor" as a group of people ... that people move in and out of poverty. This is such a different insight than what we usually believe. We can group people in many ways: as Jews, as artists, as women, as vegans. The groups all overlap. Being "anything" is a little problematic because it is so hard to define exactly who's in and who's out. So far in my unscientific survey you are the first person besides me who worried about hurting the honorable actions of others. Another wrinkle is that as the movement developed, whites were shunned, and it became a black movement (hence, black power). Thanks for your comment, TS. Commemorating one group may ignore the honorable actions of others. Human beings deceive themselves with "logic" to hide "feelings." If we don't learn from the past, we will regret it.
